Dao Ming Si and San Cai get married in Barcelona and decided to start a new life there as husband and wife. They settled in Castile-La Mancha, and with the help of Sha Ge, Dao Ming Si finds a job at a vineyard and winery. They lived a simple, contented life. Dao Ming Si stood up to the plate and proved to San Cai that he can support her with hard work and manual labor. He wears his hair short now and has a neat stubble. San Cai gave up her long locks too. They hoped that their new physical appearance would keep them from being recognized. After all, Dao Ming Si is still the 3rd generation heir of the Dao Ming Corporation. In this new life, it is only Sha Ge who knows their true family background.

The couple has been blessed with a son whom they named Dao Ming Tang. Dao Ming Si and San Cai were so over the moon with their child. Xiao Tang as they fondly call their son, was their motivation, their driving force to do their best and save for their child's future. With the couple's hard work, they was able to save enough money from their earnings which they used to buy a small farm out in the country.

Life was good until...

Dao Ming Feng sits facing the window, looking out at the vast expanse of her mansion in Taipei. She asks her secretary, Yu Tian, to get the red box from her dresser drawer. Yu Tian returns and hands it to Dao Ming Feng. She puts the box on her lap and slowly opens it. Yu Tian was surprised that the red box contained only one photo of her son, Dao Ming Si. She lifts the photo and places it on her chest. Dao Ming Feng sobs and whispers, "My son. Come home to me please." Yu Tian can feel this mother's yearning for her son whom she has not seen in years.

"Madam, it has been 6 years. Do you want me to bring him here? I am aware that you instructed me to keep close watch on him but I don't understand why you don't want me to tell you anything about what I know."

"Have you really been keeping track of him? Where is he now? What is he doing? How is life for him? Tell me, Yu Tian. Please."

"Madam, Young Master Dao Ming Si and Miss San Cai have gotten married. They are in Spain, in a small town in Castile-La Mancha. Young Master Dao Ming Si was a farm worker for a few years. He now owns small parcel of land which they made into a vineyard. It is doing well and they get a lot of produce. They are living comfortably and their needs are met."

"My son? The heir to the Dao Ming Corporation is a farmer now?"

"Madam, Young Master Dao Ming Si looks happy and content with his simple life. He has shown maturity and is a responsible father."

"What do you mean? A responsible father?"

"They have a son, Madam. Little Dao Ming Tang. He is now 5 years old."

"I have to see him, Yu Tian. I want to see my grandson. Please find a way for me to see him."

"As you wish, Madam."

Yu Tian leaves the room leaving Dao Ming Feng alone in her wheelchair, sobbing.

A school bus stops in front of the picket fence. Xiao Tang gets off the bus, waves goodbye to his friends and starts running towards the house.

"Ma! Pa! I'm hungry!" San Cai hugged her little boy and said, "Was Kindergarten class today that difficult to make you so hungry?"

"We sang and danced and we did some art work. Look, Ma. I painted a pretty flower picture!"

"That is so beautiful! Come on inside and have a snack. Let's show your Papa your painting."

As Xiao Tang was eating his snack, he said, "Mama, Papa, at school today there was a really rich looking old woman in a nice big black car who was staring at me while I was waiting for the bus. Then one man in nice clothes came to me and asked me my name."

San Cai and Dao Ming Si were stood there looking at their son, not knowing how to respond, with fear racing through their minds.

"What did you tell him, Xiao Tang?" Dao Ming Si asked.

"Nothing, Papa. I did what you always tell me to do - 'Do not talk to strangers.' I just ignored him and I stayed close to the bigger kids. The bus arrived anyway so I just got in. But that woman just kept on staring at me."

Dao Ming Si and San Cai felt a little bit of relief but it was obvious that they both had the same suspicion in mind.

Dao Ming Feng found them.

That night, San Cai was crying. Thoughts of Dao Ming Feng trying to break up her family scared her. Dao Ming Si hugged San Cai to comfort her, even if he himself was very worried.

"Let's move away from this place. I know how much you love our vineyard. But for our safety, I have decided to take you and Xiao Tang to Valencia. We will leave tomorrow night."

Dao Ming Si called Sha Ge and told him about what happened. He asked Sha Ge to look after the vineyard while they are away.

"Think of this vineyard as your own, Sha Ge. You know how much I love this land, but my family's safety right now is more important."

"Where are you headed? Ah-Xing?"

"Valencia, Sha Ge. I am sure we can rent a small house there. I have enough money to support us for few weeks."

"Please keep in touch, A-Xing. Let me know when you get there. I am praying for you. Give Xiao Tang a hug for me."

"I will. Thank you Sha Ge."

Dao Ming Si decides to take his family to a Xabia, a coastal town in Valencia. They rented a modest house and soon enough they were settled in.

"I will go look for a job in the morning, San Cai. There are lots of resorts and hotels in the area. I will see if they have any "back of the house" vacancies. Don't worry. We will be okay."

Luck was on Dao Ming Si's side. He was able to get job as a kitchen assistant in a seaside resort-hotel. He couldn't wait to go home and tell San Cai the good news. As he was exiting the hotel, he heard someone call his name.

"Ah-Si!"

Dao Ming Si froze. No one in Spain calls him by that name. He used his English name David Daumin ever since he established residence in Spain.

"Ah-Si! It is really you!"

Dao Ming Si turned around. He couldn't believe who he saw. It was Hua Ze Lei!

"Lei..."

They hugged each other. Two brothers who have not seen or heard from each other in years. Who would have thought that it was in this small town by the Mediterranean Sea that they would meet again.

"Lei, I am so sorry I had to cut communication with you, Ximen and Meizuo. I just want to break free from my mother. I do not like her meddling in my life again. I want to live the way I want to. I hope you guys understand the choice I made in life."

"I understand. WE understand. I am just so happy right now that I saw you. Two days ago I regretted my father's decision to send me here to check out some business ventures, but now I am thankful that he did! We miss you Ah Si! Oh, by the way, where is San Cai?"

"She is home. Do you want to come with me? I am excited to go home right now to tell her the good news that I got the kitchen assistant job and that I met you!"

"Sure! Let's go!"

Dao Ming Si tells Hua Ze Lei to hide first as he knocks on the door.

"San Cai! Come and open the door! I have a surprise for you!"

San Cai opens the door and gives Dao Ming Si a kiss on the cheek.

"What is this surprise? Did you get the job?"

"Yes. And there is something else."

"What?"

"Look who I found, or should I say, look who found me."

Dao Ming Si motions Lei to come out from hiding.

"Hua Ze Lei!" San Cai runs towards him and gives him a tight hug.

Dao Ming Si pulled San Cai away and said, "Hey, Lei! She is my wife now."

San Cai gave both of them a frown and then all three of them laughed.

"Mama, why are you talking to a stranger?" Xiao Tang appears from behind his mother with a puzzled look.

"Xiao Tang, this is Mama and Papa's friend. His name is Hua Ze Lei. Lei, this is our son, Dao Ming Tang."

"Ah, a spitting image of the once arrogant, spoiled brat Dao Ming Si!" Lei said.

Dao Ming Si playfully hits Lei and said, "That was the me before. I've changed. I am very happy and fulfilled with my life right now."

Lei gave his best friend a hug. "I am so proud of you Ah-Si. I know this is what you want. A peaceful life with the woman you love, and now you have a beautiful child. You have shown so much maturity. Really, I am so proud of you."

"Hey, you guys ready for lunch? Come and eat while the food is warm." San Cai calls out to Dao Ming Si and Hua Ze Lei.

"San Cai makes good food! No wonder you have such a good physique. And your son is really tall for his age."

"She tries." Dao Ming Si gives San Cai a wink.

"Hmp!"

After the meal, Dao Ming Si leads Lei to the living room and hands him a beer.

"How's life, Lei?"

"I'm good. Still single though. Been busy with work. My father is getting old and is making me do most of the work now. I stay in Japan most of the time. Dad moved 70% of the business operations there. I still visit Taipei once every 3 months."

"Ximen? Meizuo? They good?"

"Yeah. Ximen stays in Kaohsiung. He recently got married and they established a import-export business there. I try to meet up with him when I am in Taiwan. Meizuo is in Los Angeles. His mom is old and sickly, so he is staying there for now. He's engaged to a fashion model, an American."

"I am happy they are doing well with their lives too."

"Ah-Si, I hope you don't mind me asking. Don't you miss your pampered life? Don't you miss your mother?"

"Honestly Lei, no I don't. I do not like to live in that mansion. I do not want to eat alone again. I do not want people telling me what to do, how to act and who to love. I am very content with what I have right now. I may look like a pauper to you, but my happiness is not with having money and sports cars. My happiness is here. With San Cai and Xiao Tang. Actually, we just moved to Xabia. San Cai and I have a vineyard in a small town in Castile La Mancha, but we had to leave because I think my mother knew we were staying there. I decided to move my family here, for their safety."

"Ah-Si, 4 years ago, your mother..."

"Lei, please. I do not want anything to do with her. After all the hurt she caused me and San Cai, I think it is better for all of us to keep our distance from each other."

San Cai joins them and holds Dao Ming Si's hand.

"Dao Ming Si, she's still your mother. I have forgiven her long ago. I am not sure if she will accept me as a daughter in law, but I am sure she misses you so much."

"No, sweetheart. If she can't accept you, do you think she will accept Xiao Tang? For me, you and my son are my only family. There is no one else."

Lei felt Ah-Si's hurt. He has not gotten over his mother's attempts to break up his relationship with San Cai. In his mind, Lei was certain that this is not the right time to tell Ah-Si what he needed to know.

Lei changes the topic. "Hey, can I come back tomorrow and play with your son? He's so adorable. I wish I had one myself."

"Well, hurry up and get married. You're not getting any younger, Lei. Enjoy life! Don't you think it would be so awesome to have two or three little Hua Ze Leis running around in your house?" Dao Ming Si said.

"I haven't found the right one yet, Ah-Si. I am not ready for another heartbreak." Lei's was watching San Cai attend to Xiao Tang. What a good, doting mother she's become.

Dao Ming Si said, "You can come over anytime you wish, Lei. I will start the new job next week. You can play with Xiao Tang and then we can catch up on our conversation again in the afternoon."

"Great! Thanks! I have to get back to the hotel now. My old man must be calling and asking if I have done the tasks he sent me here for."

"Okay. See you tomorrow, Lei." Dao Ming Si gives Lei a hug and a pat on the shoulder.

"You're always welcome here, Lei. Xiao Tang, say good-bye to Uncle Lei." San Cai tells her son to give Lei a hug.

"Bye, Uncle Lei. Will you come back and play with me tomorrow?"

"Yes, I will."

Common Mistakes To Avoid As A New Dog Owner

Getting a dog isn’t like getting any other pet. They require a lot more care and attention and there can often be a steep learning curve involved as a new owner. It’s likely you’ll make some mistakes with your first dog, but these can be easily corrected if you identify these mistakes early. Fixing such mistakes could be important for the physical and mental health of your furry friend, as well as reducing costs and stress for yourself. Below are just some of the common mistakes you should try to avoid.

Failing to socialize your dog

Dogs are naturally social creatures. While man may be a dog’s best friend, they still need other canine companions in their life. This could involve simply going out to the park and meeting other dogs and their owners or attending training groups where you’ll meet other dogs.

You should ideally start socializing your dog when they are young (but ideally not before they’ve had their vaccines). This will help your dog to become comfortable around other dogs. Lack of socialization could cause your dog to become fearful or aggressive towards other dogs (which could mean having to keep your dog on a lead at all times and having to steer clear of other dog owners). By socializing your dog, walks can become a lot more fun for you and your dog.

Not giving them a feeling of freedom

It is vital that we train our dog, and while we need to help them with things like obedience, they need to have the same sense of freedom that we, as humans need.

When they’re out and about, they may need time off the leash, and while this can cause us a bit of stress, there are tools that can help, such as the Halo Collar, which means we can send return signals to the dog if they’re out of sight or too far away to hear us. The Halo Collar reviews online can help you with this tool, but it’s so important for their mental health to feel they can freely roam from time to time, as long as they are obedient.

Feeding your dog the wrong foods

There are many foods that aren’t good for dogs. Many human foods such as bread or dairy products will cause your dog to have digestive problems or gain weight. Other foods such as chocolate, grapes and onions can meanwhile be toxic.

It’s best to stick to dog food that you know will be good for your furry friend. Human foods like meats and eggs can be healthy for your dog, but you should still refrain from feeding them to your dog in large quantities. Be wary that certain dog food brands are more healthy than others. Portion size also matters - feeding too much of the right foods could still cause your pooch to put on the pounds. Nutritional guidelines for dogs can vary depending on the breed and age of your dog.

Not walking your dog regularly enough

Just as it’s important to feed your dog the right diet to keep them healthy, it’s also important to give them the right amount of exercise. All dogs need to be exercised - however certain breeds require more than others. Pugs and bulldogs may only require short walks, while german shepherds and huskies often require long walks.

Make sure that you’re taking your dog on walks and not just playing in the backyard. Walking your dog also helps them to stay mentally healthy by allowing them to explore a new environment, while also offering the opportunity for socialization. It can also be a great way of keeping you fit (this can be one of the reasons many of us get a dog).

Skipping vet check-ups

A lot of new dog owners only go to the vet when there is something wrong with their dog. Frequent vet checkups can often be worthwhile for catching health problems early, possibly preventing expensive treatment and further issues later down the line. Dogs are very good at hiding pain - and so you’ll often not know about health problems until they are severe.

Compare vets in your area to find one that is reputable and affordable. Taking out pet insurance could help to make vet visits more affordable, especially if you take out full life insurance while your dog is still young. Shop around to find the best insurance rates.

Not looking after your dog’s teeth

A lot of owners don’t realize that cleaning a pet’s teeth is often necessary. By brushing your dog’s teeth, you can reduce the risk of your dog developing tooth decay or gum disease. This could prevent costly dental treatment later down the line as well as keeping your dog happy.

There are toothpastes and toothbrushes designed specifically for dogs that you can use. Dental chew sticks can also help. Vet check-ups will also help you to detect dental problems early so that they can be treated before they get too serious.

Not trimming your dog’s nails

Along with grooming habits such as brushing your dog’s fur and cleaning your dog’s ears, it’s also important to trim your dog’s nails. If you don’t trim them, they could grow too long, resulting in health problems developing.

You can buy dog nail clippers and cut your dog’s nails yourself using guides online. However, many owners prefer to hire a professional groomer to avoid cutting past the quick (which will cause pain and bleeding).

Allowing behavioral problems to get out of control

Just like a child, a dog will develop behavioral problems if you don’t teach your dog right from wrong early. Bad behaviors could include barking, jumping, biting, chewing or not recalling.

Behavioral problems are easiest to iron out when your dog is young, however you may be able to invest in a professional trainer to get rid of behavioral problems in older dogs. In fact, it’s often worth looking into professional training with young dogs too (there are puppy training classes where you can meet other dog owners and their dogs). Getting rid of these behavioral problems will result in an easier life for you and could also be important for your dog if it affects socializing or going on walks.

Not picking up your dog’s poop

Picking up your dog’s poop is an unpleasant but necessary part of being a dog owner. This includes poop from your own yard and poop from the sidewalk when taking your dog for a walk.

Picking it up is not just considerate to others, but also important for reducing parasites and keeping everyone healthy. Make sure to always bring some poop bags out with you whenever you go on a walk and dispose of these correctly.

Is A Destination Wedding The Best Choice For You?

Getting married is an event that should always feel special. If things go as they should, it won’t be the best day of your life - you’ll make more of those in the future with your spouse - but it should stand for something. It is one of those days you will look back on until you are old, and so it stands to reason that it should be worth remembering for all the right reasons.

It is for this reason that many people choose to have their wedding somewhere special. “Special” can mean a number of different things; it could be the church where your parents married; it could be a splendid stately home with sweeping grounds. Alternatively, it could be somewhere far away, with the perfect backdrop to really feel like a fairytale. If you’ve ever wondered about a destination wedding, it is worth thinking about it in detail - because, if you get it right, it could be the perfect way to say “I do”.

Planning will have an extra degree of difficulty

The starkest warning that can be made about a destination wedding is that it will test your planning to the max. You can take your trusty wedding planning checklist and add a few points. For example, will a wedding in your preferred locale actually stand legally when you return home? You’ll need to check these details with a registry office, and also consult closely with the authorities at the destination itself to see what legal requirements must be met. Finally, you’ll need to consider travel arrangements for yourselves and the wedding party - which also means trimming a guestlist down to those who can actually attend.

Know what you want from the day itself

One of the most important elements of a fairytale wedding is the aesthetic. When you’re looking back at your photos in twenty years’ time, you’ll want to feel that same burst of happiness you did at the time. Your wedding therefore deserves the setting that allows you to feel like fairytale royalty. It could be on the white sands next to the azure waters of Cancun; or the winter wonderland of Slovenia’s Lake Bled. It could be anywhere you choose - what’s important is that it fits with your dream of a perfect wedding.

Celebrate when you get home, too

Your wedding and your marriage are two different things, and while the former may be perfectly suited to a grand destination, the latter should be celebrated at home. You will, after all, be living as a married couple here, and it’s unlikely you’ll have had a huge congregation at the wedding. So - regulations permitting, of course - it is recommended that you hold a party to celebrate your union and invite everyone who you couldn’t take to the wedding itself. People will understand the desire to keep the wedding small and special, but the celebration should be inclusive and joyful.

Destination weddings offer you the chance to take a special day and turn it into something unique and magical. You only get one chance to make this dream come true, so make sure you take it with style.

Shopping For Christmas During A Pandemic

Shopping for Christmas gifts during a pandemic can be challenging. If you are like me who would rather go to the mall and pick out a gift, well, this year it would be better to just do as most people do - go shopping online.

Every year, I start my Christmas shopping as early as August, but this year is different. I opted to stay safe and keep my family safe so I took to online shopping.

Two big online shopping platforms are available in the Philippines, Lazada and Shopee. Before the pandemic, I would usually just browse their websites but I rarely bought from them. Now, I have experienced the convenience of getting the stuff I want delivered to my house.

Both platforms offer discounts and free shipping on some items, and cash on delivery too. For every purchase and item review, you get free "coins" which you can redeem for vouchers. Tracking your parcel is easier with Shopee because you get updates on the app itself, unlike with Lazada where you have to copy your tracking number and check the status on the website of their delivery partner. A little bit of a hassle but no worries. I also love that both platforms send you get text messages/notifications that your parcel is out for delivery.

The items I have bought from both platforms so far are:

1. Two Desk Mats
2. A gaming mouse
3. A 10 piece set of mouse pads
4. Three James Patterson novels
5. A set of Usborne Science books
6. A night lamp
7. A T-shirt (rare find)
8. An Edmark Pull and Chop chopper.
9. A 100 ml bottle of neem oil

All items were delivered to me in good condition. Each item was properly packed, no dents, no damage and I received them all on time.

Did I have any bad experience so far? Yes. One of my purchases was for two multi-purpose desks. I was given a time frame for delivery but every time I would check the status of my order, it always says "Item packed," which means it was still with the seller and has not been moved to the courier or warehouse.  I messaged the seller and I got a response that they were having difficulties finding a courier because the items were bulky. And so I waited. And waited. And waited until finally, I got an email from Lazada informing me that my order has been cancelled due to the failure of the seller to deliver the items on time. Ugh. How frustrating. Waited two weeks only to have my order cancelled.

I have also tried shopping using Facebook Marketplace. I was able to get the desks I wanted from an online seller who was very responsive in answering my queries. She was even able to get me the desks I wanted in the color and size that suited my needs.

The items I was able to buy from Facebook Marketplace are:

1. Two Ficus Nana plants
2. Two Himalayan Salt lamps
3. One 850 gram box of Epsom salt
4. Two World Craft Multi-purpose Desks
5. Two 3-ft coco poles (for my epiphytes and orchids
6. A pair of wooden laptop risers

Buying items from Facebook Marketplace seems easier, because they usually do same day delivery with a COD option and you can choose to purchase from sellers near you. The only setback is that their delivery fee is more expensive. But if you are good at haggling, you may still snatch a good deal for the item you like.

I am not done with my shopping yet. I wish my parcels would arrive before Christmas so I could still have time to wrap them and put them under the tree.

I haven't gotten a gift for myself though. I am eyeing a new Canon camera. I am browsing around for a good deal for any of these three models - EOS 3000D, EOS 2000D or a Rebel T6 (EOS 1300D). I rarely travel though, so you'd wonder why would I want a camera like this? I have always wanted one since I was young, but I had to set that dream aside because there were more important things to spend my money on - my kids' tuition fees. But now they are all done with college and are all gainfully employed, I am working towards making my dreams a reality. One dream at a time! Maybe with a camera like this I can try my luck at vlogging.

Christmas may be a little different this year, but we are striving to keep the spirit alive. Family reunions may still push through, not physically though but with the help of technology. My cousins and I will be having a Zoom "party" so we can still "be together." Weird, but that would suffice for now.

Anyway, here's to wishing you all a blessed Christmas. Remember to always stay safe and abide by the minimum health protocols recommended by the government.

Merry Christmas!

Saying Goodbye To Debt for Good

Debt is one of those lingering problems in life that will always find a way to sneak up to us. Even if you only have a bit of debt now, there’s a good chance that you might end up growing that debt to ludicrous amounts in the future due to interest rates or bad spending habits. While it can seem innocent at first and easy to deal with, it’s something that can spiral out of control if you’re not careful.

You also need to be concerned about the effects of debt. The emotional effects of debt can be debilitating and times and it could ruin your relationships or harm your mood and motivation. These are difficult problems to cope with, so it’s important that you seek out ways to say goodbye to debt forever.

In this post, we’re going to cover some of the most important tips that will help you ensure that you never have to experience those worrying feelings again.

What causes debt in the first place?

In order to beat debt, you need to understand it. A lot of people don’t realize why they get into debt in the first place, so let’s take a look at some of the most common reasons why debt occurs.

Relationship problems after being reliant or partially reliant on someone else

Did you know that relationship problems can cause debt? If you’re somewhat reliant on another person financially, there’s a good chance that you might find yourself facing a lot of debt if you end up splitting up due to your financial situation.

Poor money management due to overspending or failing to save

Overspending is one of the most common reasons for people falling into debt. Buying expensive items on a regular basis and taking out loans for the purpose of leisure can be extremely detrimental to your financial security. Make sure you cut down on overspending and try to avoid the feeling of missing out if you don’t have the same things as your friends and family members.

Low income or being unemployed for a long period of time

Little to no income means you’re going to be in a bad financial situation. If you already had debts that you were paying off, then they’re going to get a lot worse if you remain unemployed for a long period of time. If you’re currently a low-income individual or family, try and save as much as possible and only spend money on necessities for some time.

High costs of living in an area that you can’t afford.

If you’re living beyond your means then you’re going to find yourself in a difficult financial situation before you know it. Make sure you stop overspending and focus on the important things when using your money.

A failed business idea or project that you got no return on

It’s not uncommon for people to invest a lot of their own money into a project or business that ultimately fails. If you get little to no return from it, then it might plunge you into debt.

Lots of surprise expenses that you weren’t prepared for

Surprise expenses are troublesome to deal with since they’re almost impossible to plan ahead for. Even if you have a large pool of savings, there’s no guarantee that it’s going to keep you afloat if you experience large back-to-back expenses.

Losing your job due to uncontrollable circumstances

We discussed above that being unemployed can drag you into debt, but suddenly losing your job is perhaps the quickest way to find yourself in debt, especially if you lived life going from one paycheck to another.

Loans from the past such as student debt

The quickest way to find yourself in debt is to take a large loan for something such as a house, a car or even for education. However, these are often necessary to advance your life and career, so it’s one of the few acceptable forms of debt.

Can you avoid debt completely?

There are many little tricks and helps to help you avoid debt, but ultimately boils down to managing your money properly and avoiding any unnecessary expenses that you could live without. However, you might find yourself in debt due to circumstances that were completely out of your control. For example, some people might find themselves in debt because they’ve lost their job suddenly and without warning. Without any time to prepare, you might find yourself thrust into debt due to a decision that you had no control over.

So while it’s certainly possible to plan ahead for debt, there are times where you won’t be able to control your fate. You’ll end up falling into debt regardless due to circumstances outside of your control, so it’s a good idea to find ways to climb back up.

Acknowledging that you have a money problem

First, make sure you acknowledge that you have a money problem. This will help you get your finances under control so that you can start taking your financial situation more seriously. To start, let’s take a look at some fundamental ways to help you navigate around your debt.

Finding ways to help you get around your debt

  • Start budgeting for your debt repayments. The most important tip we can offer is to start budgeting for your debt repayments. Add them to your regular expenses and make sure you’re looking ahead a few weeks at a time to ensure you always have money for paying off your debts while also living a comfortable and frugal lifestyle.
  • Pay on time every month. If you miss payments, you’re going to be subject to more interest. Missed payments can also accumulate interest, ultimately forcing you to pay more money. As long as your payments are on time, you have nothing to worry about in regards to interest.
  • Pay more than the minimum whenever possible. While it sounds obvious that paying more each month will ultimately clear your debt faster, it’s a good idea to remember just how effective it can be. By simply paying a little more off your debt each month, you’ll speed up the process which results in less interest.
  • Try and decide what debts to pay off first. It’s a good idea to look at what debts you should pay off first in order to maximize the value of your repayments. If you have multiple debts, look for the ones with the biggest interest rates first. Pay these off first so you lose less money each money due to those interest payments.
  • Dig into your emergency fund if necessary. Lastly, remember there’s no shame in using an emergency fund to pay off your debts. Debt can be considered an emergency, especially if you’re looking to prevent your interest from mounting up which ultimately costs you more money.

What if there’s no way for you to slowly overcome your debts?

In some situations, you might find that there’s no way for you to overcome your debts slowly and steadily. You might be having your wages garnished soon, you might not be making much money to pay off your debts in the first place, or you might be having a stressful time that is negatively affecting your health. In cases like these, you may want to look for a faster way to overcome your debts.

  • Consider filing for bankruptcy. Bankruptcy is the go-to option for people that want to completely remove their debts. However, you might want to consider the aftermath of a claim. For instance, questions like "how long does bankruptcy stay on your credit report?” are fairly common. This is because there are different kinds of bankruptcy claims and some of them will leave a longer mark on your credit report.

  • Speak to your bank or a lender about debt consolidation. Debt consolidation essentially means putting together all of your debts and squeezing them down into a single repayment plan. This helps you remove all of the interest rates and will make it easy for you to climb out of debt.

5 Ways to Make Your Home Look More Expensive

Sprucing up your home doesn't have to take a lot of money. Whether you are looking to add value to your home before putting it on the market or just want your living space to look more elegant, there are many inexpensive ways to make your home look more expensive.

Here are five ways to give your home a more elegant look.

Update your fixtures

The small fixtures like lighting, doorknobs, cupboard handles, and switches might not seem important, but they make a huge difference to the overall feel of your home. If your fixtures are old and boring, consider updating them with some flashier options. Update lighting with some more modern alternatives, or if you are willing to stretch your budget, why not invest in some Murano Glass Chandeliers? Upgrade switches and handles with sleeker, more aesthetically pleasing options, and your home will instantly feel more expensive.

Go neutral

Expensive modern homes all have that pared-down, minimalist look. The best way to emulate this in your home is to give your walls a color makeover. Opt for neutral shades like off-whites and greys. The same goes for furniture and upholstery.

Declutter

If you have a home that's cluttered and packed to the rafters with hoarded possessions, you will struggle to get that luxurious feeling you're after. The sparse, minimalist look makes your home look more modern and can add tremendous value. Go through every room of your house and get rid of any belongings you no longer need. Once you've done this, try to keep floor spaces and surfaces clear. You may need to invest in some smart storage solutions to keep items out of the way. Underfloor and under-stair storage are brilliant ways to keep your belongings discreetly out of sight.

Add landscaping

One of the most effective ways you can add value to a home is by increasing its curb appeal, i.e., how pleasant it looks from the outside. If your driveway or front garden is cluttered and messy or sparse and barren, then it will need an improvement. A good way to boost curb appeal is by adding some greenery and subtle landscaping. This doesn't need to be expensive: you can do it yourself with a few plants from the garden center and a couple of hours on your hands and knees. Here are some of the most attractive plants you can buy on a budget

Make an artistic statement

Adding a large, bold piece of modern art is a great way to make your home feel more extravagant. It has a huge impact and can completely transform any room. And you don't have to spend extortionate amounts at art galleries. You can buy cheap art very easily from thrift stores, charity auctions and flea markets.

There are so many ways to make your home look more expensive, and with the right techniques, this can be done relatively cheaply. Follow these five tips, and you'll be enjoying your splendid new living space in no time at all.

How To Become A Safer Driver

Driving can be a fantastic source of joy, as well as a simple means of transportation. However, it can also be extremely dangerous if you don’t know how to drive safely, protecting yourself and other road users. When it comes to your driving, the truth is that there is always room for improvement, regardless of how much of a great driver you might think that you are.

Every so often it’s useful to have a reminder of how to ensure that you are driving safely, and making sure that you are doing whatever you can to keep yourself and others safe. Bearing that in mind, below are a few useful tips for how you can become a safer driver - have a read, take note, and consider implementing some of these into your driving strategy.

Take your time

It’s been said before and it will be said again but it’s vital to remember that the speed limit that’s in place is a suggestion, not a target. It’s perfectly fine to drive under the speed limit - you don’t have to drive at the limit recommended, you just cannot drive over it, that’s all. There’s no need to rush when you are out on the road, take your time and take things slowly. Rushing is one of the main causes of car accidents, so it’s important to try and make sure that when you’re driving you’re not in a rush, as by rushing you put yourself - and others - at risk.

Be aware of what causes accidents

You should also try and remind yourself what causes car accidents and road fatalities. If you ask any of the top rated car accident lawyers what the main causes are of car accidents, they will tell you that the key causes of accidents are speed, rushing, tiredness, impatience, and driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. By being aware of the main causes of serious accidents, you can help to ensure that you don’t put yourself in a situation where you might cause an accident. Be a more mindful driver and learn to drive in a safer way while out and about on the roads.

Keep an eye out for others

When you’re out and about on the roads, it’s not just your own driving that you need to think about, but also the driving that others do. You cannot trust that other road users will be driving as safely as they should be, that’s why it’s so important that you make sure to keep an eye out for other drivers who may not be driving as safely as they should be. Worried about how someone else is driving? Don’t feel bad about reporting them - after all, just think how bad you would feel if you didn’t report them and then they caused a serious accident.

Hopefully, the tips and advice above will help you to become a safer and better driver, keeping yourself, your loved ones, and other road users safe while on the roads.

How To Move On: Coping After Trauma

Post-traumatic stress disorder is a form of anxiety caused by stressful, and often life-threatening situations. It can be a debilitating condition that prevents the sufferer from leading a full life. Often PTSD causes a person to relive their incident repeatedly, and have potentially vivid nightmares, insomnia, and extreme fears and anxiety.

Post-traumatic stress can affect anyone. A severe incident can bring about feelings that we are not equipped to deal with. This might be an assault, car accident, or even problems during childbirth. The symptoms of PTSD might not also become apparent for months or even years after the event had taken place.

Those in very stressful jobs where there is a great deal of physical risk, such as military personnel, or emergency service workers may be exposed to the kind of trauma that can cause post-traumatic stress. Those working in war zones are particularly susceptible and, in this case, suffers should visit veteransdisabilityinfo.com for advice and support.

Witnessing, or learning about severe trauma in someone that you are close to can also bring about PTSD too.

Symptoms

Symptoms vary, and may not become apparent for some time after the event. They may be things such as a disinterest in daily life and activities that are happening around you, a feeling of numbness and disconnection from other people, a lack of positive feelings about the future, and an avoidance of people, places or things associated with the trauma. More severe symptoms might include panic attacks and vivid flashbacks of the event.

PTSD survivors may say that they don't want to talk about the event. A reluctance to even talk about anything to do with an incident may be a sign that they have PTSD. Having a feeling that they cannot control their own thoughts also demonstrates a potential risk of post-traumatic stress.

Taking Action

If you or a loved one is suffering from PTSD after surviving a traumatic experience, then action needs to be taken. In the first instance, speaking with your doctor is advised. They will probably ask a few questions in order to diagnose and understand the level and cause of stress disorder. At this point, being completely honest about how you feel will make sure that an accurate diagnosis can be made. There is no shame in admitting that you are struggling. Suffering with PTSD does not imply failure on your part, and it certainly does not make you a weak person. So if there are symptoms that you are embarrassed to talk about, take your time and allow yourself the opportunity to open up about them and get the help you need.

Antidepressants

Treatment might include antidepressants. These will help with rebalancing the levels of neurotransmitters in your brain. Increasing neurotransmitters that may be depleted helps stimulate synapses making up for the reduced levels. This helps restore our brain activity to a 'normal level'. Over time, antidepressants serve to repair broken connections in the brain through neuroplasticity. When we're under a great deal of stress, our brains produce adrenaline in an attempt to run from or fight off any dangers. Reliving trauma can engage in adrenaline production, meaning that a PTSD survivor suffers from an overproduction of adrenaline. This surplus of hormones serves to raise heartbeats, fuel anxiety and keep the sufferer on edge for a prolonged time. Lowering these chemicals is essential as part of the treatment process.

Therapy

Alongside medication, many sufferers may require trauma counselling. This could be talking therapy surrounding coming to terms with the incident. Unpicking the complex emotions surrounding trauma can take a very long time. A qualified therapist will know the types of questions to ask to help you come to an understanding of your condition. They may provide you with reading or exercises to do outside of sessions. It is vital to engage with any therapeutic activities set out, as they are designed to aid your recovery. Often, though progress can be slow and you may not notice the changes. There may be a feeling that you are wasting time, and will feel like stopping. Stick with it, it is a very gradual process, but it is beneficial in the long run.

You may be offered cognitive behavioral therapy. This type of counselling will look at the ways you think and do things and will look at changing your mindset to help you deal with situations better. It is particularly useful for breaking out of patterns of thought and behavior that may be destructive.

Is Downsizing The Right Financial Decision For You?

If you are tempted to save some cash and create a little nest egg for the future, you might be tempted to downsize your home. This massive asset that you own is a burden around your neck. If you are spending a small fortune every month on your home loan repayments, you may need to consider decreasing your outgoings. Alternatively, by swapping your large pad for a smaller and more humble abode, you can decrease your mortgage and enjoy more disposable income. Take a look at why downsizing could be a sound financial decision for you.

Equity

Downsizing from a property that you have built up equity in will leave you with a healthy bank balance once you have downsized. This large amount of cash sitting in your bank account post-downsizing could empower you to travel, start a business, or simply save for a rainy day. Thinking about your twilight years also needs a cash injection to prepare for your future. Equity being released means that your money isn’t tied up in a large asset. You may even find that by downsizing, you have enough equity that means you can buy your next smaller property outright without the need for a home loan. This could leave you mortgage free meaning that you have an asset that is yours and your alone!

Lifestyle

You may leave in a large detached pad in the middle of suburbia or you might live in a home that has spare rooms that you no longer use. If you are tired of living in an echoey property and you seek a more vibrant community to be part of, downsizing can facilitate this. Think about checking out the garden Brickworks apartments, designed by renowned architects that are the embodiment of modern living. With like-minded individuals, you can feel part of a more exciting and inspiring community. Living in silo will be no more as apartment living tends to be more communal.

If an apartment doesn’t sound like your thing, consider venturing to a two bed condo, a terraced home, or a smaller version of your current dwelling. This gives you a chance to declutter from your current pad and take with you only those items and sentimental things that mean something to you. A smaller pad doesn’t have to squeeze in all of your current belongings and gives you a chance to detox materialistically.

Ongoing Costs

Living in a smaller property naturally means that your pad takes less time to heat up in the winter and requires less upkeep financially. Having a smaller boiler is cheaper, you may be able to implement greener energy saving initiatives, and you could find that your garden and exterior costs less to maintain. Less ongoing maintenance means that your finances are freed up and your time is less shackled to your pad. A smart thermostat needn’t cost the Earth to install and could save you a small fortune in an apartment or small condo.

If you are keen to downsize, assess all of your options, and make a decision based on your financial needs and wants.

3 Things You Better Have Sorted Before Christmas Week!

Often around this time of year, it can seem like everyone else in the world is having fun and enjoying themselves. However, the story can be quite different for us moms! Yes, that's right, for moms, there is usually so much to do over Christmas that it can become quite stressful and overwhelming. Of course, if we get organized and complete things ahead of time, it is possible to have a more relaxed and fun Christmas week. Luckily you can find out which jobs are essential to complete before the week of Christmas in the post below.

Cleaning your home inside and out

One thing that you don't want to have to worry about come Christmas is whether your house is clean. That is why it's vital that you break the back of this work before Christmas week begins.

With that in mind, a deep clean of the home at the beginning of December can work very well. Then you will only need to run the vacuum around occasionally as it gets closer to the 25th. It's also a smart idea to make sure that all your recycling bins are empty and clean as you will likely have more stuff to go in them than you usually do.

Cleaning the outside of your home is just as important as making sure the inside is spick and span. After all, you won't want to hang outside lights on a home that doesn't look its best. Not to mention that you will want things to look as pleasing as possible for when visitors call.

The good news is, you don't have to clean the outside areas of your home yourself. Instead, why not get a cleaning company that offers pressure washing to do your drive and pathways. You can even ask them to pressure wash your outside walls, making your home look almost brand new for the Christmas season!

Buying and wrapping gifts

The fantastic deals on offer as December progresses may tempt you to leave gift buying to the last minute. However, it's probably not worth the stress of rushing around trying to locate things, or worrying that stuff will run out!

Instead, make sure that all of your gift-buying and your wrapping is done well before the week of Christmas. Then all you need to do is sit back with some eggnog and enjoy yourself.

Just be sure to label each gift securely, as you don't want tags falling off and leaving you in a position where you cannot remember what gift is for whom!

Clean and stock the freezer

Finally, for most families, the Christmas period means good food and feasting. Indeed many families enjoy all sorts of culinary treats such as party food, and large joints of roasted meat along with all the trimmings.

Of course, the most time-efficient and convenient way of offering this type of food is to buy it frozen and then cook it on the day. Something that means, most people need to clean out their freezer in early December before they can begin stocking it with delicious food.

4 Things That Can Make Your Depression Worse

Mental health statistics in the United States are quite shocking indeed. For example, about one out of five American adults experience mental illnesses. The coronavirus pandemic gave further rise to the grim statistics on mental health across the States. Among the host of mental health challenges confronting Americans, depression stands tall. Adults aged over 18 are more likely to experience depressive illnesses in any given year. But what makes your depression worse? Outlined below are some key factors that can worsen your depression.

1. Sleep deprivation

Most people feel better and healthier when they get a good night's sleep. On the other hand, sleep deprivation can give rise to negative feelings and even worsen your depression. Research studies have shown that insomnia patients are ten times more likely to experience depression than those who sleep well. If you are experiencing sleep problems, try visiting your doctor. Also, consider limiting your consumption of alcohol and caffeine, and have a regular sleep pattern.

2. Hormones

Hormones are chemical messengers that are produced by special glands and conveyed by the bloodstream. Statistics show that women are more prone to depression than men. It has usually got something to do with hormonal changes in the different genders. For instance, after giving birth, some mothers experience what's called postpartum depression

Depression symptoms can also worsen in women during their ovulation and menopause periods. If you experience sharp changes in your mood at specific cycles of your life, book an appointment with your doctor. Experienced mental health experts may be able to diagnose your condition and prescribe the right treatment for you.

3. Diet

Depression often arises from a myriad of factors relating to your social environment, physical environment, and even genetics. However, what you eat and don't eat can also affect your depression status. One research study by the American Journal of Psychiatry related typical Western diets like sugary products and processed food to depression and anxiety in women; on the other hand, fruits, veggies and meat were thought to be healthier.

In Australia, Deakin University researchers theorize that a class of micro-organisms in the digestive system can influence people's mental health. They also suggest that just by improving your diet, you can lessen your symptoms of depression. As scientists continue to research the dietary culprits associated with depression, you may want to cut down on your consumption of sugary products and rather eat whole and fresh food.

4. Social media lifestyle

Over the past years, social media has grown to be a huge world on its own. While there may be the best platforms to connect with others during the pandemic, social media networks can also worsen your depression. In fact, researchers have coined the term "Facebook Depression" to describe the disappointments people face when their posts don't receive the expected number of comments and likes. There is a growing volume of evidence linking digital activities to depression. Things like texting, emailing, video calls, and live-chatting — have all been related to worsening depression. However, in some cases, people are able to ease their depression symptoms when they visit social media environments like Facebook. The secret is to build positive connections that add value to your life. Also, try not to expect too much from social media connections.

Social media can be especially damaging and impactful on young girls. As they are going through their tween and teen years, the content and comparisons they are exposed to online may lead to depression and thoughts of self-harm. Should you notice a problem with a teen in your life, it’s time to seek professional care. The qualified staff at Eva Carlston Academy can help provide the services your child needs to heal and get back to a healthier lifestyle.

5 Challenges You Must Be Prepared For As A New Mom

As a new mom, it’s fair to say that you are going to face numerous challenges and hurdles. Here are some of the issues that you need to be aware of and the right ways that you should handle them.

Colic

Colic is a problem that numerous babies have within the first few weeks and months after they are born. Colic is best described as trapped wind but it can be quite painful for babies and will result in a lot of crying. It’s worth noting that researchers don’t actually fully understand the cause of colic. However, there are treatment options available that can help a great deal.

Sensory Issues

It’s important to realize that sensory issues can start to develop from birth. Babies can also be born with sensory issues such as hearing loss. The good news is that a lot of these problems can be corrected. For instance, you can get microtia ear surgery for your baby. This can help eliminate issues that your child might have with hearing and ensure that they don’t develop issues with their hearing later in life.

Trouble With Feeding

You might also have to deal with a problem with the baby feeding. It’s quite common for newborns to throw up a lot after they feed. Keep in mind that while this might seem odd, it is perfectly normal behavior and nothing that you need to panic over. You just need to make sure that you do continue to feed them regularly when they are hungry. You might also want to give them sterile water between feeds to help them with issues like dehydration.

If the struggle continues, it might be a good idea to switch foods and try something more organic, like Beech-Nut Baby Food. Organic foods are typically easier to digest than processed foods and may help ease any digestive issues your baby has. If the problem continues, it might be time to consult a doctor.

No Sleep

It’s true what they say when you have a newborn, your sleeping habits change drastically. You will find that you struggle to get the sleep that you need and a full eight hours can be nothing more than a pipe dream. Babies can be quite restless, even through the middle of the night. If you are worried about your sleeping pattern, then the best way to handle it is to make sure that when the baby sleeps, you sleep. It’s good to do this, even if you are taking little naps with them during the middle of the day.

Depression

Ultimately, when all these issues come together, you can experience one major problem. You might find that you develop signs of depression. It’s worth noting that you won’t always recognize the signs of depression yourself. Instead, it can be people around you that notice these changes that you might be experiencing. It’s important that depression isn’t ignored as it can get gradually worse overtime. You might even find that it begins to affect the feelings that you have for your child. If you are having problems here, then cognitive therapy can be the right choice. With cognitive therapy, you can ensure that the main causes of your depression are being tackled head on.

We hope this helps you tackle some of the common issues and challenges that you can potentially face as a new mom.
