The Relationship of Opposites: Our Top 15 Differences

The cliche "opposites attract" is definitely true. When complete opposites get into a relationship, everyday turns out to be a fun day. There are so many things to talk about, so many things to learn from each other. They are just like fish and chips, cookies and milk, burgers and fries, and kare-kare and bagoong. One without the other is just not the same.

My hubby and I are just that. We are opposites and we're loving every bit of it. I have listed our Top 15 differences:

1. He's Caucasian. I'm Asian.

2. He's 6'1". I'm 5'1"

3. He loves chicken. I do not eat chicken.

4. He's an insomniac. I'm narcoleptic.

5. He's Protestant. I'm Catholic.

6. He can't swim. I love swimming.

7. He hates cockroaches. I don't.

8. He says lizards are harmless. I am absolutely freaked out by them.

9. English is his native language. English is my second language.

10. He thinks brown skin is beautiful. I wish I had fairer skin.

11. He's hypoglycemic. I am hyperglycemic.

12. He can't stand the sight of fish heads. I love them deep fried and crispy.

13. He loves warm summer nights. I prefer cold winter nights.

14. He's unbelievably smart. I'm a smart ass.

15. He's HANDSOME. I'm GORGEOUS.

Do you agree with me that opposites do attract? Share your thoughts and experiences. I would love to read about your story too.

  1. At the onset of the relationship, in my case, if we're opposite in some other vitals, then better to stop than prolong the process. This is just a conclusion now, because you knew each other; likes and dislikes.

  4. my favorite there is: "he's handsome, you are gorgeous!" nice one AI, super love it.

hubby and I have some opposites, but we do share a lot of likes as well. We are like solution process, blending smoothly and becomes one or homogeneous ( like dissolves like, haha).

On the other hand, some of our opposites are:

he likes monggo for dessert ( hopia monggo ), I like monggo for dish. :)
he loves dark chocolate and thinks white and milk chocolates are not real chocolates, I love milk chocolates and white chocolates. :)

but of course, our differences add fun to the relationship. :)

    1. Its really amazing, this thing called love. Another thing I have to read about is about pheromones (did I spell it right?). It is about the reason you are attracted to a person is because of their scent. Weird, but I don't stink and neither does my hubby. Haha.

  5. Give and take, respect and love for each other, main attributes that a relation needs to survive. Some of my husband's weaknesses are my strength and vice versa.

  6. I can't help but smile reading the list of differences between you and your husband. Just like you, my husband is Caucasian, I'm Asian; he loves chicken, I don't eat chicken; he's Jewish, I'm Catholic; I love warm summer nights, he loves cold winter nights.

But guess what I have him eating now after almost 14 years of marriage - he's eating fish heads and ampalaya with gusto. He can't have enough of ampalaya and devours them which ever way I prepare them.

  7. hehehe. I love this topic. I think even you have some opposite things to each other still as its makes the relationship more interesting. I am the same like you I have caucasian hubs. I love to knock thing in the house.
I have my tools I mean carperter tools . My husband has no interest in anything of that.
When we have our crazy cravings with filipino food specially if you eat " balot " he would say ofcourse i still love you even you put that little chicks in your mouth ! !!!

  8. The comparison and the statements are nice. Like them.

I can't really say it's not about being opposite but how you complement each other. And I think, the compatibility is there when your differences are embraced by each party.

  9. "Love is not about finding the perfect person. Its finding someone to share your life with and making everything perfect."

Thanks guys for the lovely comments. :)

  10. Oh, gee, I wish I could live up to the quote. Sometimes I think that our differences are the cause of our misunderstandings or maybe I am just being a pessimist. Great to know that you tend to be more positive in this case that I am and I just hope you live up to it! :) God bless!

  15. "Opposite attracts" it might be true but not always, need to share likes also. I do believe having a perfect relationship is respect, love, accept your partner, adjust to him/her not he/she should adjust to you.

  26. Opposites do attract and might last longer than sameness in relationships. Happy Valentine's Day

  27. Right on! I enjoy talking to people who are not my clones, but seem to date guys with different core values than myself which ends up being a dealbreaker. Some opposites should remain far, far away from each other: like a do-gooder and a burglar. Your differences with your husband are hilarious! I can't believe you'd marry a guy who can't swim ;)
